Westport Underground Storage Tank Removal Service

Underground storage tank (UST) removal in Westport, Ontario may be necessary for business owners, Realtors, insurance companies, and homeowners—especially during a property sale when home inspectors, lenders, or buyers need assurance that no buried oil tank or soil contamination could impact financing.

Specialized Onsite Services Inc. (SOS) can locate and test for buried fuel tanks throughout Westport and nearby communities across Rideau Lakes (Newboro, Portland, Elgin, Crosby). If a tank is present, our certified crew performs careful, efficient excavation and collects soil samples to evaluate any petroleum impacts. Where contamination is identified, we mobilize to your Westport site to excavate and remove impacted soils.

All contaminated material is transported to a licensed receiving facility near Westport. Following excavation, we complete confirmatory (verification) sampling with accredited laboratory analysis. When results confirm the site meets applicable Ontario MECP (Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks) Site Condition Standards (formerly MOE), we backfill, compact, and restore the excavation so your property is clean, safe, and market-ready.

SOS is recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario as a qualified company in Westport, Ontario meeting the requirements of the Ministry of the Environment and the TSSA to provide all the aspects of removing an underground fuel storage tank.

Local Conditions in Westport That Impact Underground Tank Removal

Westport’s location on the Rideau system (Upper Rideau Lake and Westport Sand Lake) and mixed bedrock/valley soils can influence underground storage tank (UST) removal and remediation:

  • Soil Type: Thin glacial till over shallow limestone/bedrock on uplands (e.g., Foley Mountain area), with pockets of sandy–loam or historic fill in the village core and shoreline zones. These variations can slow drainage in finer layers and complicate excavation near bedrock; we plan careful excavation, segregation/stockpiling, and targeted soil testing to track any impacted material.
  • Water Table & Proximity to Waterways: Properties near Upper Rideau Lake, Westport Sand Lake, and adjacent wetlands often experience seasonally high groundwater. Any leaks can migrate toward groundwater or surface water more quickly, so our work plans account for groundwater conditions, potential dewatering, and confirmatory sampling to protect sensitive receptors connected to the Rideau Canal system.
  • Regulatory & Real-Estate Considerations: The Village of Westport may require permits for excavation and site restoration, and transactions often request environmental clearance where a tank is known or suspected. Sites close to lakes, streams, or wetlands may also require conservation authority review. We coordinate utility locates, permitting, and documentation to meet municipal bylaws and provincial standards (MECP/TSSA).

Local Resources for UST Removal in Westport

If you have a buried fuel tank on your Westport property, these authorities and references will help you stay compliant and informed:

  • Village of Westport – Building/Planning Services: Apply for excavation/construction permits and review local requirements for UST removal, backfilling, and site restoration.
  • Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA): Guidance and permitting for work within regulated areas, shorelines, wetlands, and near watercourses connected to the Rideau system.
  • Parks Canada – Rideau Canal: Permits and approvals may apply for activities near the Rideau Canal/Upper Rideau Lake corridor and related water control structures.
  • Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP): Provincial soil/groundwater standards, excess soil rules, and remediation requirements for petroleum-impacted sites.
  • Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA): Oversight of safe handling, abandonment, and removal of fuel oil tanks under Ontario’s Fuel Oil Code; contractor and process requirements.

We bought an auto repair shop with an old oil tank that left contamination under the floor and footing. SOS handled everything perfectly. Cam and Levi are friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. Communication was clear and honest — no runaround, just straight answers. If you need remediation done right the first time, these are the people to call. As shop owners, we know the value of fixing things right — and that’s exactly what SOS does.

Cam and his crew were exceptionally easy to work with. Our garage was in bad shape and we had planned on utilizing SOS and the team for months. They came and demolished our garage in such a professional manner. Cam came and worked hard all day because he didn't want to let any of his clients down. Even while the night prior there was a huge windstorm and he had to delegate all the various jobs that need prioritizing. The clean up was done effectively and the team works fast and they are a lot of fun as well. Last minute Ryan and I decided a deck would be a great addition. I literally just asked Cam and he said he would come back the following week and build us a beautiful deck where our old leaky garage once stood. The cost of his work is very reasonable. I cannot thank him and his team for all the hard work they did for us!! Lots of appreciation Leiann and Ryan
