Underground tank pull contamination

In General, underground fuel storage tanks are not in use aside from fuel dispensing locations. The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) govern the use of UFST's in Ontario. If a buried tank has been out of use for more than two years it must be removed. There are two components in removing a buried tank. One - the tank and all associated piping must be removed by a TSSA licensed contractor. Two - once a tank has been removed the soil surrounding the tank must be sampled and a technical report of findings provided by a Qualified Person (QP) recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
